Henna does not stain the skin black. While the dark green henna paste that is applied to the skin appears to look black once it has dried, real henna does not stain the skin black. Henna stains the skin initially orange which darkens to various shades of brown. The henna paste will smell fresh and aromatic, not like chemicals. Anyone using products labeled as “black henna” are using products containing PPD, para-phenylenediamine which has been shown to cause allergic reactions. I do not use products with PPD or synthetic dyes.
Henna with black hair dye will not smell fresh or green or relaxing. It will have a nasty chemical smell.
